SBCUSD Employee Guidelines for Participation

Hope Maker Mentor

The guidelines listed below pertain to District employees who volunteer in the San Bernardino City Unified School District Hope Maker Mentor program for the 2020-2021 school year.

  1. The guidelines apply to both permanent Classified and Certificated employees.Classified or Certificated substitutes will not be allowed to participate in the program.
  2. The Hope Maker Mentor program is a voluntary participant program without monetary compensation.
  3. Hope Maker Mentors will not accrue overtime or compensatory time towards their permanent Classified/Certificated position.
  4. Program volunteers will not be eligible to receive district mileage reimbursement
  5. District Cell Phone allowance will not be granted for this program.
  6. Participation in the program will be contingent upon your immediate supervisor’s approval.
    • There is no appeal process if your supervisor declines your request to participate in this program.
    • Your supervisor has the right to deny your participation at any point or time during the program.
    • Approval to participate in the program must to be granted on an annual basis by your immediate supervisor and submitted to Kenneth Martinez for final approval.
    • If you have a student attendance roster for which you are professionally responsible for as part of your normal job description, you may not participate as a Hope Maker Mentor.
  7. If approved for participation by your supervisor, your regular work assignments, projects, or duties are still expected to be completed.
    • At any time during the current year, if your evaluator has evidence that you are not making satisfactory progress in your assigned duties within your employed job title, your evaluator may request your termination from participation in the program.
    • Your regular breaks and lunch will not change because of this voluntary participation.You are required to take your duty-free lunch period and breaks as per your contract at the established times with your District-assigned location.
  8. No adjustments to your starting and ending times for your regular assigned workday will occur.
  9. The District will not provide transportation to and from your volunteer mentor site.
  10. Transportation to and from your mentor assignment must be in accordance with Board policies and Administrative Regulations.
  11. Hope Maker Mentors must wear their District ID Badge and Hope Maker Mentor shirt when participating in the program on the day of the student visit.
  12. All Hope Maker Mentors must sign in using the District Raptor system at sites.
  13. All Hope Maker Mentors must adhere to all the rules and guidelines pertaining to Hope Makers.
