Hope Maker Guidelines

San Bernardino City Unified School District Hope Maker Program Guidelines

  1. Immediately upon arrival, Hope Makers will sign in at the main office or the designated sign-in station using the SBCUSD Raptor System, volunteer section.

  2. Hope Makers will follow all policies, procedures and other rules established in the District and all applicable laws.

  3. Hope Makers must wear the appropriate identification badge and will show volunteer identification whenever required by the school site or District office to do so.

  4. Hope Makers must follow the appropriate dress code applicable to staff.

  5. Hope Makers cannot smoke in any SBCUSD facility or on SBCUSD property.

  6. Hope Makers will not lend money to or bring gifts to students unless authorized by the school principal or designee and the Hope Maker Principal on Assignment, Kenneth Martinez.

  7. Hope Makers will not transport students unless the appropriate paperwork has been filled out and approved and never transport a student alone.

  8. Hope Makers will not have access to student educational records. All Hope Makers will sign a Confidentiality Agreement.

  9. Hope Makers will not photograph or videotape students unless authorized by the principal or designee and the Hope Maker Principal on Assignment, Kenneth Martinez.

  10. Hope Makers will not dress, change diapers, provide personal hygiene assistance or supply medication to students.

  11. Hope Makers should not exchange telephone numbers, home addresses, email addresses or any other home directory information with students for any purpose unless it is required as part of your role as a Hope Maker and approved by school principal or designee and the Hope Maker Principal on Assignment, Kenneth Martinez.

  12. Hope Makers will use universal precautions to avoid contact with body fluids approved by SBCUSD.

  13. Hope Makes will only use adult designated restrooms.

  14. Hope Makers can monitor student behavior; however, if a situation is serious, the Hope Maker should seek immediate assistance from school personnel.

  15. Hope Makers will not discriminate against or harass any person and will report all harassment or discrimination observed, in accordance with District policy.

  16. Hope Makers will not search students or student property.

  17. Hope Makers will not direct a student to remove an emblem, insignia, or garment, including a religious emblem, insignia or garment. If the Hope Maker believes a student’s clothing is disruptive or promotes disruptive behavior, the Hope Maker will contact the school principal or designee and the Hope Maker Principal on Assignment, Kenneth Martinez.

  18. Hope Makers must report suspected cases or abuse or neglect to the school administrator or professional staff approved by school principal or designee and the Hope Maker Principal on Assignment, Kenneth Martinez.

  19. The Hope Maker staff will provide appropriate training for all Hope Makers.

  20. All Hope Maker work is done under the direction of the Hope Maker staff. Hope Makers must comply with the sign-in procedures (Raptor System) at the school site. Hope Makers do not receive compensation or employee benefits except Worker’s Compensation as provided for in Labor Code Section 3364.5.
