Course Content
Throughout the 2012-2013 school year, students will learn to negotiate meaning of diverse essential standards aimed in developing their critical thinking capacities: helping students become critical, negotiable agents for future academic and social success. We will work hard in maximizing higher levels of learning  so that each student may achieve mastery of reading and writing standards essential for high-school readiness and beyond.  The class will concentrate on evaluating the structural elements of plot, analyzing character conflict, determining how the setting of a story creates mood and tone, analyzing literary devices and evaluating how such devices define a writer's style, determining and articulating the relationship between the purposes and characteristics of different forms of poetry, comparing and contrasting features and elements of multifarious consumer materials, using context clues to determine unknown vocabulary words throughout texts, and creating varied compositions that exhibit a thesis statement, unity, coherency, logical sequence, and a well- supported conclusion.
