Counselor's Corner
Counselor Deidre Jones

Hello, I am Deidre Jones Rio Vista’s school counselor. I look forward to coming to work everyday because I get to work with the best students in San Bernardino. The Rio Vista counseling program is committed to providing support for students to succeed academically by improving test scores and student achievement and socially by providing guidance to help students become respectful and responsible citizens of the world.

Our character education curriculum, which I present to the classes, is called “Too Good for Violence” and was created by the Mendez Foundation. “Character education is the process of teaching students positive attitudes, beliefs and behaviors… Too Good for Violence promotes the following eight character traits: Caring, Cooperation, Courage, Fairness, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Self-Discipline. By providing opportunities for students to put these qualities to use, Too Good for Violence helps schools to integrate character development into school life.” -Mendez Foundation.
Along with in class lessons, students are given “Home Work Out” activities to encourage family participation that will reinforce the important skills being taught.   Our focus is to teach our students to BE RESPONSIBLE, BE RESPECTFUL, and BE SAFE as part of encouraging students to demonstrate positive behavior.
