NMS 100

NMS 100 is a district program designed to increase the number of SBCUSD students who qualify to become National Merit Scholars, one of the highest national academic honors a student can receive. The goal is to have 100 SBCUSD students qualify in the next four years.

Scores from the junior year PSAT are used to qualify, but preparation should begin as early as elementary school and requires a time commitment above and beyond what students are required to do in class, which is fitting for students who want to be recognized as one of the best students in the nation. Though trying to become a National Merit Scholar is work, there are many advantages:

  • An increased chance of admission to the best universities in the nation
  • More financial aid and scholarships (up to $250K+)
  • National recognition for students' personal and academic achievements
  • Invitations to special college and pre-college programs

Becoming a National Merit Scholar requires having the right mindset: A passion for excellence and learning. This is what top colleges and scholarship committees are really looking for.
