For the last six (6) years, the San Bernardino City Unified School District has coordinated Professional Development time (commonly referred to as "collaboration days") each week for teachers and other school personnel. This time has been used to plan instruction in order to increase student achievement. The purpose of this letter is to provide two (2) updates related to this program.

The late-start, early-release program conducted on Thursdays will come to an end for the 2011-12 school year on April 26. 2012. Beginning May I, 2012, Thursdays will be full school days for students for the remainder of the year. This is true for schools on
both traditional and year-round schedules.

For the 2012-13 school year, the professional development time (Collaboration Days) will be moved from Thursdays to Mondays. We will continue to have a late start for secondary schools and elementary schools will have an early dismissal. Again. similarly to this
year. there will not be a Collaboration Day on weeks when the district has some other scheduled minimum day (e.g. parent conferences, track change days. etc.)

We will provide additional reminders and more information in the future. but wanted you to have this information for planning

Por 105 ultimos seis (6) anos, el Distrito Escolar Unificado de la Ciudad de San Bernardino ha coordinado el tiempo para la capacitacion profesional (cornunrnente referido como "dias de colaboracion") cada semana para los maestros y otro personal escolar. Se ha usado este tiempo para planificar la ensenanza a fin de mejorar el rendimiento estudiantil. Esta carta sirve para brindarle dos (2) actualizaciones relacionadas a este programa.

El programa de comienzo tarde y de salida temprana que se realiza 105 jueves llegara a su fin para el afio escolar 2011-12 el 26 de abril de 2012. Comenzando elide mayo de 2012, los jueves seran dlas completos para los alumnos por el resto del afio. Esto aplica a las escuelas que siguen los calendarios tradicionales y de ano redondo.

Para el ano escolar 2012-13. el tiempo de capacitacion profesional (dias de colaboracion) carnbiara de 105 jueves a 105 lunes. Continuaremos a tener el comienzo tarde para las secundarias y preparatorias, y las primarias tendran la salida temprana. Y, parecido a este ano, no habra un dia de colaboracion las semanas que el Distrito tenga otro dia minimo program ado (por ejemplo. conferencias entre 105 padres y maestros. dias de cambio de sesiones. etcetera).
